Our first few days at home were great. Aiden is such a calm little boy, not very fussy, a very good eater, and a good little sleeper too. He's eating every three hours, almost like clock work. Aiden had lots of visitors and is lucky to have so many amazing family members that love him. It was very cold on the day we came home from the hospital and had a freezing rain overnight, so we stayed inside with our little guy. Nana and Grandpa and Rachel came by for a visit. On Thursday, we may have been a bit too ambitious and attempted to walk to the mailbox with our little man in the stroller. We didn't even make it to the end of the block before he lost it! We think he was cold?? We'll try with him in the carrier next time! Day 2 at home walk = failure! Sonia stopped by for a visit and to bring us some frozen meals and clothes for Aiden. So sweet! Clayton, Mom and Dad came by that morning for a visit too.
Our first outing was to the pediatrician on Friday. We picked Dr. Arfsten at Academy Park Pediatrics, and he seems great so far. Aiden looked fabulous in his first exam and was gaining weight. He had dropped down to 6 lbs 7oz before we left the hospital and was back up to 6lbs 12oz at this visit. These first few days at home were going well, and luckily Ross was able to take the week off. My emotions were a bit of a disaster with all the hormones, and there was lots of crying around the house! Week 40 emotions! :-) And lots of happy tears too. The Serven's came over to meet Aiden on Friday night and brought us some tasty pizza for dinner. Owen and Aiden will surely end up being good friends. Aiden is almost as big as Owen since Owen arrived early. On Saturday evening the Cammon's came over for Christmas. Since Mom and Dad had been in Palm Desert over the holiday, we had not exchanged gifts yet, so it was fun to do that. Aiden slept through all the festivities! Mom and Dad spoiled Ross and I and gifted us the Bob running stroller we wanted!
Kuna has been absolutely amazing with him. The first few days she would just come over and sniff him a little and give gentle little kisses. She's very interested in him but definitely realizes she needs to be gentle. She's being perfect. If he's crying or making noises and we're not right there, she starts barking or whining to get our attention. They're going to be best buddies!
Aiden got his first bath on Sunday, before Daddy headed off to the Bronco's playoff game. Aiden's bath was the only win of the day, since the Broncos blew it against the Colts. Aunt Rachel came over and cooked us tacos and hung out for the game.
On Monday, we had a busy day! Aiden was already one week old! We had a lactation consultation at the hospital, and with a hungry baby crying in the car seat, it was an emotional ride for mom, but we survived! He weighed in at 7 lbs 1 oz. Back to birth weight in one week! That afternoon we went and visited Katie Van Buren for our newborn photo shoot. She's so talented and Aiden did SO well. He slept through the first hour and let them just play with him and took some gorgeous photos. We're so excited to get them back!
On Tuesday Abby and Owen came over for a visit, and my Mom came over and spent the afternoon cooking all sorts of great meals for us....chili relleno, mexican chicken, and coffee cake. Yummy! We had a great day hanging out with each other and the baby while Ross was downtown. We had a successful walk with Aiden in the Baby Bjorn on Wednesday, and then on Thursday, Aiden's umbillical cord fell off, and we also had a successful walk in the Ergo carrier. Mom and Dad stopped by on Thursday on their way up to the mountains. On Friday we had Aiden's 2 week check up at the pediatrician. He weighed in at 7 lbs 9 oz and his head was up to 14". He is doing great! We also attempted to go for a walk with him in the stroller again, and he did great! Slept the whole time. :-) Ron and Delly came by that afternoon for a quick visit. Over the weekend the plasti-bell from his circumcision finally started to fall off, but didn't come off cleanly, and he had his second bath. Robyn came over for some snuggles with Aiden on Saturday too. Unfortunately Rachel's bunny had died on Friday night, and we're so glad she came over on Saturday to surround herself with people that love her and get snuggled with the baby, which helps cheer anyone up! Mom and Dad stopped by for a visit on Sunday, and Rachel had stayed over last night, so we had some great quality time with all of them.
On Sunday, just before Aiden was 2 weeks old, he slept in his crib! Prior to that, we had him sleeping in the pack n' play in our room. We can hear him fine in the nursery, and then we can sleep a little better in between feedings, since we don't hear all his squeaks and moans!
The first two weeks Aiden was a dream! He is hardly ever fussy, and really only screams when he is hungry. He's eating every three hours, and wakes himself up most of the time, like clockwork. We wake him up during the days and let him wake us up at night, in hopes that we'll get a longer stretch of sleep. Every few nights he seems to give us a 4 hour stretch between feedings, and then 3 hrs every where else. He eats well, obviously, since he's gaining so much weight! He gets the hiccups all the time, and sneezes after he eats. It's so cute how his hands instinctively come up to his mouth when he sneezes. He doesn't seem to do his lip quiver much anymore. He has the sweetest little squeaks and snorts and gives adorable smiles when he is sleeping. He's such a sweet little boy. He continues to have tons of visitors as our family's can't get enough of him! It's crazy how much more alert Aiden is getting each day, and how quickly he is growing and changing. We are just trying to eat up each and every day with this adorable little guy.
On Monday, Aiden's 2 week birthday, we went for our first run! Getting him in the car seat was the worst part, and then he slept the whole run. He did great! Mom...not so much! Turns out my last workout pregnant felt far better than my first workout not pregnant! But, I've already lost 20 of the 27 lbs I gained, so I can't complain too much. We also got to go view our newborn photos down at Katie's studio. They are precious! She even ordered two to put on her studio wall. He's our little model baby! That afternoon when stopped back by the pediatrician's office because the plasti-bell was still hanging on and we figured it had to be hurting him. The doctor pulled it off for us, and Aiden was good to go. He weighed in at 7lbs 15oz, with a diaper on, and full belly!
Ross went to the office a few days this week, and it was hard for him to be away, but we all did well. Later that week Aiden was being fussier than usual, and it turned out he had pretty bad diaper rash. Poor little guy. Luckily the ointments actually seem to clear it up rather quickly. Mom and Dad were over on Wednesday afternoon (before flying back to Cali on Thursday) and helped us realize his little bum was hurting. Dad and Aiden took a nap in the nursery chair, which was so cute. It's so fun to watch our parents with their little G-baby. He's loved very much! Before Ross went to his basketball game on Thursday night, Reid came over to visit his nephew. On Friday, he found is thumb! Maybe by mistake, but he was sucking his thumb, and awkwardly holding the rest of his hand over his face! He has such long fingers. Ross's grandmother and Aunt Ruth came to visit the little guy too. That weekend we went down to Stapleton to visit Clayton at his new place on Saturday and went on our first family run on Sunday. It's way nicer to make Dad push the stroller and me take the dog!
I experienced a very painful blocked milk duct on the following Monday, Aiden's 3 week mark. Ouch! Luckily Ross was able to work from home and I was able to get things feeling better by the end of the day. Thank goodness Aiden was a good eater for me that day! Justin stopped by that evening for a visit. He's so cute with the baby. :-) On Tuesday it was 70 degrees outside, so we went for a run and also went over to visit Abby and Owen for a walk too. What a gorgeous day in January and fun day with my boy. Wednesday we got out of the house for a breastfeeding support group at the hospital. Our little guy weighed in at 8 lbs 8 oz at 3 weeks and 2 days! We stopped by TJMaxx to get some clothes for Aiden on our way home, and Cambrey stopped by for a visit that afternoon. Aiden's diaper rash returned by mid week, so we were back to ointment. :-( Thursday we had lots of visitors. Emily came by with breakfast burritos and exciting news that they're expecting #2! It was great to catch up with her. That afternoon Rachel came by.
That night Aiden went 4 hr 45 min between feedings! Mom got almost 4 hours of sleep. It was amazing! Way to go little 25 day old baby! It was a good Friday! Rachel stopped by that afternoon to help us do some arts and crafts, however, capturing hand and footprints of a baby isn't so easy! We have a plan to try again another day! Saturday Ross's parents came by to visit their grandbaby and Sunday Ross's grad school friends came by and brought some delicious brunch. It was great to see Wendy, Lindsey, Michael, Dean and Lauren! Then...it was veg out time and Super Bowl. Too bad we didn't want either team to win! I was pretty proud of myself for cooking four new meals for dinner....Pinterest successes! I had grocery shopped on Sunday and then cooked new meals on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Not bad for week 3 of being a mom! (Sausage and pepper fettuccine, flank steak shredded tacos, Salisbury steak meatballs, and chicken/broccoli/rice casserole)
We can't believe Aiden will already be 4 weeks old tomorrow! It's gone so quickly! We still catch ourselves looking at each other in disbelief that we have a son.....that this is our life now....that this precious little baby is ours. It's truly a miracle. We're so blessed. Not only is he beautiful, but he's so calm. He rarely fusses if it isn't for food or being too tired. He's getting so alert, everyday, and his little features continue to change. He's got beautiful dark blue eyes and still has a pretty full head of dark hair. His dimples are just adorable when he smiles and he makes some fabulous faces. Watching him wake up and watching him fall asleep is the best. His stretches and faces and noises are too cute. He's so strong. So strong. He tries to hold his head up on his own all the time, and can push away from us with his strong little legs and arch his back to push away. It's incredible. For having a newborn, life has truly slowed down for us right now. We are just getting to spend precious quiet time at home with our little guy. My days consist of feeding my little man and maybe doing some laundry or dishes. It's amazing how little I can get done and have a very busy day! It's been incredible so far and we're just trying to enjoy it all. Seeing Ross with Aiden is my favorite. He's so sweet, and so funny. They do "business" together in the office, and Ross can even play FIFA and cuddle his son at the same time. Our favorite joke right now is telling Aiden he's acting like a two week old, when he's fussin. :-) Ross is already the most amazing father. We have a fun journey ahead of us, and these first few weeks have been a fabulous transition for us. We're so lucky!
