17 Month Stats
Height: 34"
Weight: 25.4 lbs
Hair: light brown and ready for another haircut! He gets great fluffy bed head!
Eyes: Blue green and sparkly as can be
Clothes: 18-24 months. 18 month pants and shorts, 24 months and 2T shirts, onesies, and pajamas. He's growing so fast and is so tall. It's amazing how the 2T clothes doesn't even look that big on him. He just has a skinny little waist and his shorts fall down! Size 6 shoes
Sleeping: Aiden is down to one nap and doing really well. He sleeps from 7:30-8pm until about 6am and then naps at about noon-2:30 pm. He is our early riser but is always so happy! He'll only sleep in on work days! :-) The transition to one nap was easier than expected, as we were forced to do it because of swim lessons and now it works! Aiden goes to bed so nicely and will just lay there quietly and snuggle with his animals both when going to bed and when he wakes up. He likes to lay on the soft blue blanket and enjoys snuggling his big elephant on occasion. He's so sweet. He loves to drink water when he wakes up.
Eating: Aiden is really starting to use his spoon and loves to feed himself. He's a good little eater most days and we can't wait for one more month to pass so that we can get him tested for his egg allergy again and hopefully be able to open up his breakfast choices! He does great using his spoon when eating something that will stay on it and then will hand it back to me for more! He adores noodles and does awesome with almost every meal that includes them. He calls them "new news". Some of his favorite food is spaghetti, steak, guacamole, blueberries, tomatoes, goldfish, cheese, chicken Alfredo was a big hit, he enjoyed french fries on vacation, hummus and crackers, and macaroni and cheese dinners are always winners! Aiden will make his little fishy face for goldfish!! He loves to play with my fork and will stab food and feed it to himself occasionally, but mainly likes playing with it attempting to stab food. He likes to eat sitting on my lap sometimes too, the same food that he won't eat in his high chair! He's doing a lot better not throwing food off his tray as much lately. He drinks milk 3 times a day, totaling about 21 oz. Switching over to a cup has been a definite challenge. He loves his bottle in the morning and at night. He does well with his cup at lunch or finishing it during his afternoon snack and will drink some during dinner. But when Ross tried to give him the rest before bed still in his cup, he starting crying and backed up against the wall just crying. It was hysterical. We'll let the bottles continue for a little while longer!
Teeth: 12, and those canines are close!
Talking: The last few weeks Aiden has really become a babble machine. He is talking all the time and is starting to put sounds together more and more. His recognizable words are: Mama, Dada, his animal Baba, Nuna for Kuna, basketball, no no no, Papa, Nana, Goooo Gooo for Goose.
Signing: He's picking up new signs really quickly. He learned "help" and "yes" in about a day and uses help very appropriately. He signs the following like a champ: milk, more, please, thank you, help, no. We're working on: flower, swimming, yes. The best is when he says "no no no" and signs it too! It's so cool to see him understanding it!
Loves: Wow, what doesn't Aiden love these days! He is seriously the most playful happy little guy that is into everything and is a total hoot. He LOVES his little lamb Ba-Ba! Ba-ba goes everywhere with Aiden and his definitely his little buddy. He loves to smile and dance and wave his arms and do quick feet and spin around and drop it likes its hot. He LOVES reading! We check out lots of library books these days and he loved the 100 Animals book. He would kiss all the animals on certain pages! He has less favorites this month, but seems to enjoy Trucks and The Night You Were Born a lot. He loves to be outside! Rocks, pine cones, sticks, dirt, flowers....provide so much entertainment! We walk around the yard and play with rocks, pull on flowers, throw rocks in the window wells or buckets or little pebbles in the train, pull out garden signs, and generally love being out there! He likes to "help" Dad when we're working in the yard, by following him around and always being in the middle of things. Sprinkler repairs were good fun, dropping stuff in the sprinkler control box and playing with dirt and worms. He loves going to the park and his always super content in his stroller taking Kuna for runs or walks. He went through a major phase of loving bananas. It was a two week banana binge! He would eat two a day! One in the morning and one for a snack. He would get so excited to see them on the counter and squeal and smile when we'd start peeling one for him. He enjoyed eating them himself and helping peel them and then throw the peel away. As quickly as the obsession started, it ended and he wanted nothing to do with the bananas again. He loves to walk down the stairs holding our hand. He takes huge steps! He loves chapstick! He will pull off the top and try to put it on his lips and then on our lips and then play with the lid getting it back on. He gets so excited for chapstick and it's incredible how quickly he figured out how it worked. He loves lotion and calls it "dub dub dub" and likes to try and rub it on his belly and chest. He likes to run around the front yard and hold our hands stepping down the patio. He can open the front and back door and loves to follow us outside! He likes to pull the powder room door closed if we leave it open. He likes to play in Kuna's food storage container and feed her a piece and then eat a piece himself. Luckily he just started letting us leave her water bowl down during the day and is less interested in splashing the water out. He likes to watch her eat and drink. He loves to try and snuggle with Kuna, but she rarely lets him! She moves too quick! But he'll go hug her neck or lay his head on her back or try to sit on her when he has the chance. It's adorable! They are buddies for sure, she is just not willing to let him snuggle with her like we do. The occasional ear and hair pulling is likely to blame! Aiden loves to climb onto the coffee table ottoman and then slide off and clap with the biggest smile! He loves to say "no no no" whenever we do, or whenever he's doing something he shouldn't! He recently started signing "no" along with saying it, and he does it all day long. He runs around and babbles all day long. He loves to do his quick feet stomps. He loves taking showers and playing in the bath. He blows bubbles like a champ. He loves to pick up pieces of trash at the park or the pool or around the neighborhood and give it to Mom or take it to the trashcan. It's so cute when he runs to the trashcan. He's so happy. He's the best!
Hates: Aiden gets pretty hangry each night before dinner. He tolerates having his face and hands wiped these days. He doesn't love floating on his back in the swimming pool. He gets frustrated at times and will pull his hair, or throw his toys, or hit himself in the head. This is usually when he is tired or having a hard time communicating something. Luckily we can distract him and redirect the energy very quickly. He hates having his hair dried.
This little 17 month old is an angel! He had an incredible month learning swimming and did great testing out in his clothes. It was such hard work but he did great! He loved playing with the pool noodles and balls in the play pool before lessons. He had so much fun in Florida playing in the ocean and pool, doing the water slide, and popping the bubbles we would blow on the patio. His happy little smiling face and growing curiosity and learning each day sure helped Ross and I through a very challenging time this month. Without Aiden, losing our baby would have been so much more devastating. He kept us busy, happy, and smiling each day. We're so sad he won't have a little brother later this year, but are so so blessed to have him so happy and healthy in our family. We love you Aiden!!!
