Aiden had a big week! On Monday he started his swim lessons with Janna. She is the infant survival swim lesson instructor that will teach Aiden the basics he'd need to save himself in the water, and we'll gradually get him swimming strokes. This first week was a challenge as he got used to Janna and the hard work these lessons will be. Unfortunately he cried pretty much the entire time he was in the pool each day but definitely got better at the exercises each day. The lessons consisted of trying to teach Aiden to hold his breath, get more comfortable floating on his back, and flip over and swim to the wall. She dunks him under in bobs and tries to have him float and then flip over and guides him to the wall. He was holding his breath about 2 counts, which was good, and naturally wants to be more of a swimmer than a floater. We know he'll do great. We hope next week the crying will stop! He cries and looks at us and signs for "more" which means "want" to him. So he cries and wants out! Poor kiddo. But each day he calmed down faster and faster after getting out and enjoyed playing in the kiddie pool before or after lessons. He's doing so well.
Aiden really started signing "thank you" like crazy this week, and was using it very appropriately. He'd sign it whenever we said thank you to him or when he was saying thank you to us. It's so cute! One evening when he wanted another cracker he even signed "please, more". It's incredible to watch him learning so much each day. Signing "read" was also new this week.
At music class this week Shelby said he was the cutest thing she'd ever seen. There was a little 10 month old boy that Aiden kepy hugging and kissing. When the mom would pick him up, Aiden would get upset and sign more. So adorable!
They learned about bumble bees, B, 2 and ovals this week and Aiden could even identify the letter B in a list of letters by the end of the week. So cool!
Aiden had some weird bites or rashes this week. Not sure what's going on with that. A new freckle appeared this week, on his belly, after the week in the sun. It joins the one that showed up on his collar bone a few weeks ago. He appears to tan like his Daddy but might have freckles like Mommy!
He had fun trying to brush his teeth when Shelby would. She got her invisalign put on last week, so she has to brush her teeth a lot now! :-)
Aiden gets ridiculously excited when he gets a hold of the remote. He had a blast one night climbing onto the coffee table ottoman and then sliding off the edge. He literally did it 50 times. He loved it. He's such a playful little guy! He gets so energetic after dinner and runs around like a crazy guy until bedtime.
This week was also big because we started to try going down to one nap. It was a bit from necessity, because with swim lessons at 9:20, his morning nap at 9:30-10 was not possible. A few days he slept in the car for 20 minutes and then didn't nap until almost 3. Other days we tried to put him down around noon wih marginal success. It will be a bit of trial and error the next few weeks trying to figure out if he's ready for one nap or not. But he's handling a messed up schedule really well and has had great energy and a happy attitude the whole time.
Aiden is really into trucks and had Shelby read him the book probably 20+ times and he loves looking out the back door at the cars and trucks passing the house on Mississippi.
We are so lucky to have such a sweet little boy in our lives!
This weekend was rainy, snowy, cold and all and all gloomy. We still made it out for a walk in the snow on Saturday which was nice fresh air. Aiden appeared to need his two naps, after being very tired and cranky in the morning, but then tossed and turned and never fell asleep for his 2nd nap. Crazy guy! It was an early Saturday bedtime, and unfortunately, a very disrupted sleep. At about 2am we heard Aiden coughing, crying, like a scared cry, and choking a little. When I went in there, the poor little guy was throwing up. :-( The rest of the night he threw up about 5 times, spent most of the night on Daddy's chest in the rocking chair, and couldn't even keep water down. It was so sad because he kept signing for water, but we couldn't really let him have any, because he was throwing it up almost immediately. Poor baby. First time ever he's thrown up like that. He was very snugly and tired and clearly not feeling well most of the day. At one point in the morning he was standing by the door hugging Kuna, another time he was laying over Ross's legs on the couch just snuggling, and he fell asleep on the couch with me. He took a lot of naps, and unfortunately had diarrhea later in the day. The throwing up stopped about 6am, but his bowels were unhappy and he had no appetite all day. Luckily he went to bed early and slept 12 hours on Sunday, so we're hopeful he'll bounce back quickly. The snuggles were the only silver lining to the day. We tried to watch some kiddo movies, but he wasn't too interested yet. We did get outside to play out front after dinner and Aiden enjoyed shooting hoops in the little basket down the street with Ross and watching Kuna get her tennis ball. He's so sweet, even when he doesn't feel well.
