Only 4 more weeks until Aiden is a year old?! How is this even possible?!
This week went by in a hurry as we tried to get everything together at work and also at home for Christmas before we leave for vacation. We leave for Hawaii on Saturday. We're totally dreading the 7.5 hr flight and hope Aiden will be able to hold it together. It will be a long day! And when we get back it will be 5 days until Christmas!
Aiden had a great week with Shelby! Tuesday they went and checked out a Jump Street, a trampoline play center, but Aiden is a bit too small for it. In a few years I'm sure he'll love it. On Wednesday he did awesome at music class and interacted with Mr. Mark the teacher and the toys way more than last week. There was only one other kid there and Aiden pulled his hair a little bit. Shelby was ready to fight the Mom for being lame! And on Thursday they went to the zoo! Shelby says Aiden really enjoyed the seals and they watched them swim around and play for probably 15 minutes. He also enjoyed the giraffees and monkeys and elephants.
Santa Clause is coming to town! Wednesday evening Ross and I took Aiden to meet the big man for the first time! Aiden has been a very good boy all year, so we're sure Santa will enjoy adding him to the list for his 1st Christmas! Aiden did great and wasn't scared at all. He tried to pull his glasses off at first, but then just crossed his legs and relaxed for a picture with Santa!
This week Ross and Aiden started a new morning routine of after vacuuming Kuna's bed Ross gives Aiden a magic carpet ride out to the kitchen! He just kicks back and enjoys the ride! Kuna even joined him for it one day. :-)
We got all packed up on Friday and were ready for vacation! Clayton was sweet enough to come get us and take us to the airport and the Rhinehart's were sweet enough to watch the Kuna girl! Luckily they got to see Aiden when Daddy dropped Kuna off on Friday. Nana and Grandpa can't get enough of their little Aiden baby. :-) Of course it was snowing Saturday morning. which made it a great time to be heading to Hawaii, but added about 1.25 hrs to our plane time because of a delay on the tarmac to get deiced. Aiden actually fell asleep before we took off, because he only got a short nap on the way to the airport. He slept for about 1.5 hrs! Then he played and played and did so well in a confined space. He loved playing with the squishy soccer ball and shooting hoops in the plastic airplane cups and enjoyed pushing the arm rest back up! All these toys...and the cup and arm rests were the best hit! He enjoyed running up and down the aisle, and in particular loved running up to first class. He would beeline to it every time we were heading up the aisle! He would even crawl under the curtain to get to first class. Too funny! Kid has expensive tastes! We thought he wore himself out enough for his afternoon nap, but after trying for 45 minutes, we said screw it and let him run back and forth a bit more, gave him a new book, and fed him dinner. By now he was overly tired, as with all the other kids on the plane. He had a few minor melt downs but never screamed for long and just liked to snuggle up with him. He eventually fell asleep on Ross and we thought he'd be out for the rest of the flight, since it was about 7pm at home. But we were wrong! He slept for about 45 mintues and then woke up happy as could be. About an hour later our long flight adventure was finally over! Aiden did great, and it went way better than we expected.
Funny enough we got off the plane without our carry-on bag, that thankfully they just sent out with the luggage. Then we were sweaty and loaded for bear and poor Aiden was so ready for bed. Once in the rental car he slept until we got to Kaanapali and to our condo. Ross and I ate some yummy take-out from Duke's and Aiden was out like a light. He went to bed about 7:30pm, so only 3 hours late! We'll see how this goes! Luckily Duke's was tasty, because it may be our go to all week!
We are staying at Honua Kai in Kanapali and it's beautiful! We have a partial ocean view, a mountain veiw, and the condo is perfect. This will be a fun first vacation, just the 3 of us!
Aiden woke up at 4:15 am (7:15 at home), which was about as we expected. We wish the sunrise would have been more impressive since we were awake! :-) It makes it all ok to see the smile on this kids face and spend the morning with him! We went to get coffee and breakfast and explore just before 7am and to show Aiden the beach and ocean! Ross saw a big whale breach off the coast and then it even came back up once more for me to see! There were a bunch of big sea turtles just off the shore and it was a lovely morning. Aiden didn't quite know what to expect of the waves and sand, but luckily only ate one handful! We'll have so much fun this week, especially since he loves water so much.
Randomly Jeanne and Todd were in Maui for the first few days of our trip, after spending a week here themselves, and were staying just down the road. After a long morning nap for the little man we went over to visit them and walked down the beach to Whaler's village for some lunch. So fun to visit with them, and eat some tasty fish tacos! Aiden was practically asleep in my arms by the time we got back. Then Ross and I failed at our parenting decision, and went to the grocery store, hoping Aiden would fall asleep in his carseat. No such luck! So we hurried and threw some stuff in our cart, spent $130 on very little, and hurried to get him to a nap. Poor kid is all screwed up! He slept for 2 hrs and then we had to wake him up! We went to the pool briefly, which is wasn't a huge fan of becuase he was just so sleepy. Tomorrow will be better! A little dinner and bath later, and Aiden was off to sleep. It was 7:15pm Hawaii time, so we'll see if this one day adjustment works! Ross and I ate our bestie Duke's again, watched some football highlights, and hit the sack. Yay for vacation and yay for having an incredible family! Aiden is our pride and joy! :-)
