We got to Hawaii on Saturday night and are so lucky to spend this lovely week in Maui! Aiden won't remember it, but we sure will! It's his first time seeing the ocean and touching sand and just the 3 of us being on vacation. Pretty special. It will be a different kind of vacation with a little one....a bit slower, less adventurous, or taking turns, but it will have so much more now! We get to show him so much new stuff and spend time with our angel.
Aiden learned how to give kisses!!!! He used to kind of suck/bite me to kiss me, but now he gently opens his mouth and lets me kiss him! It's so cute. Yay, Aiden can give kisses!! Later in the week he even started kissing Dad and kissing the picture of Kuna in his family book. He totally knows what "go give Mom a kiss" means and it's just precious! He also learned how to hold our hands. When we're walking with him and hold our hand out and tell him to hold our hand, he'll grab it and walk with us. It's adorable. And handy when he's a little wobbly!
We've been super lucky to see whales right from shore the last few days. Sunday Ross saw one breaching just off the coast of our resort. Monday we saw them from the deck in the morning. And Tuesday we were so lucky to see them breach and wave from the points near Kapalua. This made us decide we needed to take a whale watching trip since we happened to be hear during the beginning on whale season. We took and afternoon whale watching cruise on Wednesday. The trip was from 4-6pm, and given that it was literally the 2nd day of whale season, the tour providers didn't hope for a whole lot. But....they forgot they had the best whale sighters on board! We were lucky enough to see 2 humpback whales breach. Very cool. We can't even imagine how neat it must be come February or so, when whale season is at it's peak!
We went to Kapalua Bay Wednesday morning to play in the ocean and snorkel. When we had been hiking on Tuesday the bay looked very calm, so we thought it would be a good place. Turns out the sea got a little angry on Wednesday, so the bay really wasn't that calm, but we had fun taking turns snorkeling and Aiden enjoyed playing in the sand and the waves with us.
Thursday we were super busy and took full advantage of the day! When Aiden was ready for his morning nap we jumped in the car and headed around the mountain we could see from the lanai for a hike. It was about an hour drive, on this crazy little one lane road, and unfortunately Aiden didn't fall asleep until about the last 20 minutes. We went on a cool hike up a ridge and were up with the clouds! If it had been a clear day the views from the summit would have been spectacular. Seems like the mountains are socked in most days though. It was cloudy and windy and spitting rain up top, so we couldn't stick around for a hike and for Aiden to play like we had hoped. We tried to hurry back down which was slow going because the mud was slick from the morning rain. Aiden had had enough of the hike, and was totally exhausted, and cried for a good portion of hte decent and of course fell asleep when we were about 2 minutes from the car! Haha! Luckily he slept most of the ride home, which we took the big road instead of little windy one! We spent the afternoon playing in the ocean and pools. He loves plyaing in the sand and didn't even try to eat any today! He also loves the bigger kids whenever we see them in the pools and enjoyed playing with the water streams at the pool. He loved seeing the birds from the deck or on the beach and took a really long 3rd nap after crummy naps the rest of day. Poor kid is pretty screwed this week! We picked up fresh fish for dinner.
Aiden is soooo friendly. He waves at everyone...on the beach, in the elevator, at restaurants, in the pool....and squeals with delight and gets happy to see other people. It's really sweet. He makes people's day!
Friday we played at the beach and pool and then went out for a great dinner at Merriman's. We saw a gorgeous sunset and ate a yummy dinner. Aiden has expensive tastes! He loved the homemade pasta and my ono fish. He was so well behaved. We couldn't have been more proud! He put a smile on many patron's faces. He gave Momma some great kisses for sunset pictures too!
Clayton picked us up from the airport and Delly brought Kuna over to the house, which was awesome. Aiden played for a little and then was ready for a nap, and we should've too, but ate some breakfast and watched football instead! It was a lazy day just resting and getting mentally prepared to head back to work tomorrow!
Vacation was fabulous! What a special time for our family and quality time with our little man.
